Online security

Efrangipanis started showing photos of frangipani trees online in 2007. Since then, we have always taken a cautious approach to security.

Credit Card Numbers

When we started selling frangipanis in 2007, we knew there were risks and responsibilities relating to collecting and storing credit card numbers, so we didn’t rush into getting an eftpos machine.
Getting customers to pay by bank transfer or cash went smoothly so we haven’t thought about it seriously since then. This means, no need for us to deal with risk of credit card fraud and no fees anywhere.

Accounting Software

Around 2016, it seemed that criminals were finding out how to imitate Australian business invoices and getting Australian customers to use different payment details. I saw on tv a few examples of Australians losing money. I also heard personally from a few Australian businesses that they had a few customers each that had received incorrect invoices from them. Luckily for all of them, they noticed the products and amount looked unfamiliar and they didn’t pay. While MYOB is not responsible, all three companies used MYOB. We use a simple and secure accounting method by FAS.

Companies should be careful not to send an invoice to a scammer who could easily copy it. Customers should make sure the listed products and the amount to paid are accurate.

Private Domain Names and Email Addresses

Efrangipanis has several domain names and several emails to match each domain name. Sometimes, we might reply using a different email address. If you’re worried, check the domain name and if it contains the word “frangipanis”, it’s likely ours. If the domain name has a frangipani related website and it is listed on our frangipani hub page, it is our email.

PayID, BSB and Account Number

From 2007, most of our payments came via payment to our BSB and account number. Our NAB account number has four 8s and three 4s so easy to enter incorrectly. Once or twice a year, a customer paid to the wrong number, but thankfully, all those wrong payments bounced and were quickly refunded.

I waited for years for banks to allow customers to pay to an email address, a mobile phone number or a business name, and finally, in 2018, PayID was introduced.

After logging into your online bank, select pay to someone’s mobile phone number, email address or select PayID. Enter our email address and you should see our business details. If you do not see E Frangipanis, do not pay.

SSL and HTTPS

If a website is protected by an SSL certificate, http becomes https. Making a payment or submitting personal information on a http website is very risky and browsing a http website is only a little risky.

Except for very rare occasions, such as a brief period for website maintenance or a full website replacement, Efrangipani website are secure, and SSL protected.
